05. Personal Expository

Directions: Create a three to five paragraph essay. Summarize who you are, describe what you like to do, and describe your plans for reaching your future goals.

  1. Create a folder called writing.
  2. Utilize Microsoft Word to write an essay.
  3. Save the assignment as personal_expository.docx in the writing folder.
  4. Use a proper heading. First and Last Name, Class Name and Period, Date, Assignment.
  5. The Class Name is: Media Technology
  6. The Assignment name is: Personal Expository.
  7. In the first paragraph introduce yourself and summarize who you are. This might include your name, where you live or have lived, something about your family, and information that makes you unique as a person.
  8. In the second paragraph describe what you like to do (school, hobbies, sports, community activities, clubs, work, travel, special interests) and specifically describe one thing that you are really good at.
  9. In the third paragraph describe your plans for reaching your future goals. Your dream or big idea could be a business you want to start, a career you want to have, a sport you want to play, or a college or university that you want to attend.
  10. Align your paragraphs to the left hand side of the page.
  11. Utilize block paragraphs and do not indent, skip one line between paragraphs, use single space paragraphs.
  12. Use a single basic font that is size 12.
  13. Insert 1 space after periods and commas.
  14. Control standard writing conventions such as spelling, grammar, and punctuation and use them with accuracy and when appropriate. Minor errors must not distract the reader.
  15. Review all directions before asking the teacher to grade your assignment.
    This big idea or dream about what you want to be when you grow up could be a business you want to start, a career you want to have, a sport you want to play, or a college or university that you want to attend.

  16. Utilize a five paragraph essay that includes an introduction, conclusion.
  17. Use a voice that makes the reader feel like he or she knows you as a person.
